Audrey, one of the participants from Wetherby, wrote the following about her experience of Step Up:

I would like to encourage you to think about enrolling for the next Step Up which will begin in September. I have been doing the 2015 – 2016 Step Up, which is described as “An Intentional Year of Growing in Discipleship”.  It began in September and finishes in July, meeting weekly in term-time.

Initially, I wondered whether Step Up was for me, as my Christian life began when I was 16, more than 50 years ago. But it has been a good, challenging and fruitful time. We worship together, learn together through teaching by speakers, usually Mark Carey and his team from Kairos Church in Harrogate, and share together – there are regular “Hub Sessions” where we discuss what we are learning both on Wednesdays and in our lives generally as we assimilate what we are learning. Each of us has a mentor, who we meet with at least once a term to talk and be encourage.

There is a Step Up Guide, which gives the outline of the teaching, and enables us to revisit what we have heard on Wednesday evenings. In addition, during the year we will have read and discussed four other books covering different areas of dicipleship.

Step Up encourages relationship with God through Christ, and aims to get us listening for God’s voice and leading in our lives. In my experience, it gives a desire and confidence to share my faith with others. We are all being led to consider what we can be doing in the life of our church.

I hope this doesn’t sound heavy and serious – we have a lot of fun, not to mention the cake we enjoy with coffee at the beginning of each meeting! The group of us have got to know each other really well, and to love each other.
